Spring News and ducklings on the way....

We are taking part in the Incredible Eggs programme, taking delivery of the eggs in an incubator and then hatching and raising them. There was a choice between chicks or ducklings and we have chosen ducklings - it will be so exciting watching them take their first swim! The company is very ethical and they rehome the ducklings afterwards. https://www.incredibleeggs.co.uk/

The eggs have now arrived and are in the incubator. One by one they are starting to hatch! We are busy choosing duckling names! Follow our Facebook page to see their progress.

Phillipenes Day

Following the success of our Romania Day, our Filipino team members hosted a special Philippines Day. Belinda took to kitchen with Miha and cooked traditional Filipino food. Belinda then gave us a talk on the Philippines. We tried foods and learnt a few words. Both events were loved by residents and the rest of our team. So wonderful to gain an insight into these different cultures and share traditions and experiences.

Baking for The Salvation Army

We are continuing our baking for the Salvation Army on Tuesdays, with our bakes going to Lee's Place. Residents have made chocolate tiffin, millionaire shortbread, potato and cheese pasties, bread loaves, pizzas and Bakewell tarts.

We also marked Nutrition and Hydration Week in March which a focus on how to stay hydrated. We made milkshakes and jelly and had an afternoon tea with friends and family.

Musical fun

A brilliant time was shared with The Gadzukes, a local ukulele group who came to perform for us. Lots of singing, dancing and laughter.

Out and about

Some of our ladies enjoyed a trip out to St Michael's Hospice, Hereford. We shopped, chatted, tried a few things on for size and were the ladies who lunch too! Our Home Manager Ali came along to see what we got up too - we think she will be joining us again. Thank you to Blueline Taxis for a brilliant service. One of our ladies said 'Memories like this should be bottled'.

Walks for Wellbeing Newstead

With the beautiful Spring weather, we have been taking residents out for walks to the park to see all the Spring blooms. Lovely to be able to sit in the sun with a drink and a good book. We have also been to Churchill Gardens and Radway Bridge Garden Centre. We chose some vegetable plants and flowers to put in our hanging baskets back home and stopped for a well deserved cuppa and cake in the cafe.

Next we are off for a trip out for Easter egg shopping.

Coming Up.....

We are marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day with an afternoon tea party on 8th May. This is part of a national event and all our Heritage Manor homes are taking part. We have lots of baking planned (scones and Victoria sponge cake) and have the bunting at the ready!
