Coronation celebrations

Did you spot our fabulous Gold Coronation Carriage out and about in Kempsey?
Residents designed the coach after asking if we could repeat the Jubilee carriage rides of last year. So, with the aid of a huge cardboard box, glitter, a rummage in the rainy day craft box and aided by our trusty glue gun, the gold carriage was created – with the suspension being a tad better than King Charles’ carriage!

Our residents, resplendent in their fur capes, tiaras and Crowns (with Joy, our Lifestyle and Wellbeing lead, as their Royal Sentry!) loved all the attention on trips out round the village. Thank you to everyone for stopping to chat, beeping your car horns, clapping and cheering.

Mavis, age 95, said Who would have thought it, Queen for a day at my age! What a wonderful afternoon!

Josephine, age 96 saidEveryone is so friendly and all the children from the school have curtseyed or bowed – it’s been lovely.”

The Coronation weekend

Then, with our home decked out with bunting and flags, Coronation crowns made, and everyone in their red, white and blue, the celebration weekend could begin! Part One was an afternoon tea for residents, families and friends on 5th May with the fantastic vocalist Katie B. Part Two was the Coronation ceremony itself with all its wonderful pomp and pageantry and Part Three on 8th May was our Coronation Fun Day: Complete with our Right Royal Quiz and Bucks Fizz, street party buffet lunch, Royal Bingo and singalong, cakes galore and toasts a-plenty to The King and Queen.

A huge thank you to all The Lawns family who helped out over the weekend, going the extra mile to make amazing memories. From our fabulous staffing team, to family members and friends who moved furniture in and back out dodging the rain storms, to the marvellous volunteers and team of washer uppers, tea makers, cake servers, bar staff, laughter and memory makers. We certainly know how to celebrate!

Our wonderfully regal photoshoot

During the run up to the coronation, we offered residents the chance to take part in a photoshoot to mark the occasion. Not every one wanted to take part but there were plenty who did and they threw themselves into the occasion. We think you will agree, the resulting photos are wonderful and such keepsakes.

And now, time for a rest?

Maybe! We had the Residents Meeting on 19th May, when residents discussed their thoughts and ideas for future events and projects. Our Summer Fair was high on the agenda. Save the date: Saturday 8th July – Alice in Wonderland themed and raising funds for our residents chosen charity The Guide Dogs for the Blind.
