We have a new Residents Committee that meets once a fortnight and they have already decided on lots of projects for 2024. But we do need the help of some volunteers to help bring these plans to life! And in return, we can offer you tea, cake, friendship, fun and laughter.
Volunteers needed …….
To help with our Sewing Circle. One project decided at our last Residents Meeting, is to start a sewing circle. We have a number of talented sewers at The Lawns. It is amazing how this skill stays in the muscle memory, even though dementia may affect other aspects of life. We do need some help with the more fiddly bits though. Our dexterity isn’t quite what it was, although sewing does help to improve this. If you are nimble fingered and can spare an hour on Mondays from 3pm, please do get in touch.
To help with our Gardening Club. Another plan for Spring is to develop our garden further, with garden games, a polytunnel and raised beds. Residents want to grow more veggies to include in meals. They have already chosen them – funny though that broad beans were a definite no! We have already made our own crazy golf course and have bought a large cartwheel to plant with herbs. Residents also planted 50 cuttings from the carnations we used for flower arranging, so we can re-grow them for our floristry. We now need a watering rota! We are looking for donations of 10-12 inch plant pots and green-fingered volunteers to help our gardening group once a fortnight.
Other plans and ideas from our Residents Meeting
- Our summer fete has been decided for June, with the theme being a 1960’s village affair.
- Residents have asked to do a Scarecrow Competition again and get the farm animals back for the day. Last year we created a mini farm in the garden.
- We thought about getting a marquee and having a baking competition.
- We discussed a family and resident treasure hunt around the village, a family BBQ or picnic and a cheese and wine evening event.
- For Easter, we are planning an Easter Raffle and a hat competition at an Easter afternoon tea.
Our collaborations with local schools
We had the wonderful company of the children from Kempsey Primary for Global Belly Laugh day! They shared their projects, hand puppets and jokes. The clown brought the slapstick and a flower that squirted water!
We also enjoyed our last visit from the Upper Sixth students from Kings School Worcester, who are now focusing on their exams. They have been regularly visiting, to spend time with residents, playing games and sharing stories. Such a lovely group of young adults, who we wish every success. We are looking forward to welcoming a new cohort of students from the Lower Sixth.
