Bringing you up to date with our Newstead News

We have had an amazing start to the year, with lots of inspiring visits and our residents loving getting involved with the community and supporting local initiatives.

Some inspiring visits

Such a joy to have farm animals in our home when Pentre Farm CIC visited. All the snuffles and bleating! Dobby the goat proved to be quite a character. Residents learnt about the farm and animal therapy they offer. Just wonderful to have a cuddle with the animals. Jem and Sunshine the guinea pigs loved all the attention having their coats brushed.

It was Teddy Day, so we arranged for representatives from the Teddy Trust to come in and give us a talk on what the charity does. Their ethos is that you can never underestimate the healing power of a teddy bear. They collect teddy bears from around the UK and send them to children who are suffering the traumas of war, starvation or abuse. We donated a few cuddly friends, plus some scarves and hats residents had knitted. This charity really makes a difference to children that have been through so much.

We also had a visit from the Nuffield Health Hereford Physiotherapy team who put us through our paces.

Baking and donating

On National Chocolate Cake day residents rolled up their sleeves and got baking. They made some delicious chocolate muffins, plus some rather sumptuous gluten free vanilla muffins. Over baking, they decided their Community Project for the year should be to bake and donate to The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army arrange a lunch club to help people who need a bit of support. So our residents are now contributing their bakes to the lunch club. Our first donations were bacon turnovers and cinnamon swirls.

We know its early, but residents have started creating next years Calendar. We always like to have a theme. For 2025 it was Guess the Song and for 2024 it was Events and Memories. Keep a look our on our Facebook page for our paintings and drawings which may feature in the 2026 Calendar.

Our resident Brian got his L plates for his new wheelchair. Thank you to our home manager Ali for creating them! He has been scuffing a few door frames while acclimatising to his new chair, but so good to be mobile!

Our Romanian team members hosted a Romania Day for our residents. Mihaela was busy in the kitchen cooking some Romanian street food which was delicious to try. We also tried Romanian chocolate, biscuits, cordial and alcohol. Simona chatted to residents about Romanian culture and traditional dress and taught us a few words. Thank you so much ladies. Everyone loved the day.
