Our residents and catering team have really enjoyed baking this year for lots of celebrations. From Burns Night to Valentines. We even made seed cakes to feed the birds ready for the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

Residents got ready for Burns Night by making shortbread together. To ensure it was authentic we commandeered a Scotsman to help make it! We enjoyed a special Burns bread made by Swifts bakery Ludlow ,as recommended by Jane. Our catering team made delicious Highland stew and Cranachan, which we all washed down with a whiskey.

The Anglo Saxons called February “Solmonath” which means cake month apparently! Any excuse to make carrot cake which is one of our favourites!
We celebrated the Chinese New Year with fortune sticks and fortune fish. The menu was sweet and sour chicken with special fried rice, prawn crackers and spring rolls!
We had some fun making pancakes for Shrove Tuesday and then made red velvet cupcakes for Valentines Day. We shared the love on Valentines Day with a inspired lunch from the kitchen team. Plus a fun afternoon singing and and dancing with Huw Knight.
In other news…
We are having monthly visits from Olivia from Creative Minds Herefordshire. She is so creative and helped residents make Robert Burns silhouettes for Burns Night.
There has been entertainment from Eddie Graham, one of our favourites. With cake and milkshakes, of course!
West Eaton partnered with Wheels to Heal , a charity based in Luton that recycles mobility aids (and other items). They provide the gift of mobility to disabled people in need overseas . A fantastic symbiotic relationship that is such a great cause and is also reducing land fill.
We have planted a mixed hedge following the fence line to our garden area and on the exit drive. Plus some trees planted along a curving pathway. This has been made possible by kind donations from residents and their families. The hard work was done by Tom from Bucknell Nurseries and his lovely companion Winnie, despite the constant rain! We look forward to watching it mature and to warmer weather, so we can all enjoy it!
